Union Market District Announced as Presenting Sponsor for LightReel Film Festival

Washington, DC – April 4, 2025 – The 6th Annual LightReel Film Festival proudly announces the Union Market District as its Presenting Sponsor, reinforcing its status as a premier destination for diverse and groundbreaking cinema. Taking place from June 4-7, 2025, this year’s festival will feature an electrifying lineup of films from over 15 countries, with more than 70 films competing for the festival’s top honor, The Black Butterfly—LightReel’s highest distinction, akin to the prestigious Palme d'Or, celebrating excellence in cinematic storytelling.

Set in one of DC’s most vibrant neighborhoods, the festival offers attendees access to a dynamic cultural hub where film, food, and community converge. The screenings will take place at our host venue, the Angelika Pop-Up at Union Market, an intimate space perfect for an immersive cinematic experience. Union Market District’s thriving culinary scene adds to the immersive festival experience, making LightReel a celebration of artistry in every form.

Among this year’s many highlights is the highly anticipated DC Premiere of The Makings of Curtis Mayfield, the directorial debut of the acclaimed musician H.E.R. This captivating documentary explores the life and legacy of the legendary soul artist, offering an intimate look at his groundbreaking influence on music and culture.
